SHOCKING SECRET #3:   Insurance companies routinely sacrifice your and your family's safety - for the sake of company PROFITS!!!

Unfortunately most drivers are, at some time in their lives, involved in an auto accident. Should this happen to you, you'll of course be contacting your insurance agent.

When you do, you'll almost certainly be directed to an auto repair shop that he recommends. And although you may appreciate the recommendation, following it may not be such a good idea! You may (and probably will) do much better to do some research and find a good repair shop on your own.

But if you tell your agent that you want to take your car to a different body shop, you're likely to hear something like this:

"We wouldn't guarantee the repair if you go to that shop"
"You'll have to pay a lot more if you go there"

.... or something comparable.

But these kinds of statements are misleading at best, and at worst outright falsehoods! Why would he want to discourage you from picking your own repair shop?

The answer has nothing to do with providing you convenience ... but to save the company money, and as much as possible! And that's accomplished by reducing the amount they have to fork over in insurance claims.

So the "preferred" shop your representative is directing you to is certainly "preferred" ... by the insurance company because it will save them money, but it might not work in your best interest.

Why?

Because the shop has signed a contract to pre-negotiate your repairs by giving the insurance company discounts, by way of utilizing "aftermarket" auto parts. The result could well be using substandard parts, and possibly not doing all that is necessary to effectively fix your car.

So when repairs are completed, your vehicle may not be roadworthy ... or even safe to drive!

There are added reasons why selecting a bad repair shop can result in unsafe fixes. There's a procedure known as "Clipping", and that means cutting off an entire half of your car (either the front or rear half) and affixing the other (undamaged) half of a car that has been wrecked.

This method can compromises the structural integrity of your car, and although this can be unsafe, it's nevertheless a frequent occurrence.
